In the early hours of Friday June 3, 2011, a college student, Lauren Spierer (born Jan 17, 1991), went missing without a trace in Bloomington, Indiana. To date (June 26, 2011) she has not been found. This story has gotten a great deal of press recently, so I decided to look at the chart for her disappearance. This article is an exercise in horary astrology, which has techniques for locating missing persons based on when they were last seen. The family is clearly quite distressed, and I am hoping that the ancient technique of horary astrology can provide some clues to the young woman’s whereabouts.
The chart is only as good as the data available. The most recent news report I read says that the last reported sighting was by a friend named Jay who saw Lauren “walking barefoot and turning the corner of 11th Street on to North College Avenue at about 4:15 a.m.” Most media sources have repeated this story, but it apparently has not been confirmed by the police. I will look at the last reported sighting chart of 4:15 a.m., but the astrological analysis can only be as accurate as Jay’s eyewitness account. If Jay’s account is false and so the time of the last sighting is wrong, the chart will not yield meaningful results.
In traditonal horary astrology, a missing person is signified by the Ascendant of the chart and its ruling planet(s) and also by planets in the 1st house. Because the time is approximate, either Aries or Taurus is rising. Aries is ruled by Mars, and Taurus is ruled by Venus. If the 4:15 time is accurate, then one of these two planets represents Lauren. Both planets happen to be in Taurus in the first house, so we can begin with the placement of these planets.
The first house suggests a location that the person usually frequents. This is strange because the police, as well as family and friends, have been searching for three weeks without finding her. Yet the chart is very clear that she ought to be found in a place she normally frequents, a place where she hangs out and people who know her would normally find her. This would include locations like her residence, her apartment building, her home, office, workplace, etc.
The planet that signifies her lies in Taurus, an earth sign. Taurus usually signifies locations low down, near or beneath the ground. In buildings it could be the bottom floor or the basement. Earth signs can also represent dark places like closets or storerooms. Taurus is related to plants and gardens, so an outdoor location like a pasture or garden is possible. Houses and signs are associated with directions. The first house suggests an eastern location and Taurus represents a southeast direction. Thus, it is possible she will be found to the east and somewhat south of where she was last seen.
News reports indicate that Lauren’s family suspects the worst. She apparently has a serious heart condition and may not be able to survive for long without her cardiac medication, which she has not had since the time of her disappearance. The 4:15 a.m. chart is consistent with the family’s expectations. Jupiter rules the 8th house of death and conjoins the Ascendant, which signifies the missing person. In addition, the 8th cusp and the Ascendant each lie in the Mercury decan of their signs, and Mercury conjoins the fixed star Alcyone of the Pleiades, which is associated with sorrow, accidents, and trouble with the opposite sex. A picture of what might have happened is beginning to emerge from the astrological symbolism.
Let me stop here because I’m not sure the 4:15 time is accurate and everything I have written hinges on that time being correct. If Lauren’s family happens to read this, let me say that my heart goes out to you. Given the sensitivity of the issue, I was somewhat reluctant to post this; but I did so with the hope that in some way it might help to find her. Let me also point out that astrology is based on correlations that have proved reliable over time but are by no means infallible. My hope is that Lauren will be recovered alive and well and will ultimately be reunited with her family.
Addendum: Sept 6, 2012 – A google search for Lauren Spierer reveals that she still has not been found. There is now an “official” website for her at http://www.findlauren.com/
