Sun Myung Moon, the North Korean cult leader and one of the greatest con artists of all time, died on Sunday in Gapyeong, South Korea at the age of 92. Hospitalized with pneumonia, he expired just before 2 a.m. local time (12:54 p.m. EDT Sunday) at Cheongshim International Hospital outside Seoul, South Korea. Moon founded the conservative Washington Times paper to garner political favor in Washington, expand his empire, and promote his role as messiah.
Moon fathered a bickering brood of 14 children by his second wife, one by his first wife, and one bastard child. Convicted and imprisoned in the USA for tax evasion (1984-1985), the self-proclaimed messiah was notorious for bilking elderly widows out of their life savings. His charismatic presence inspired his young followers to work 18-hour days proselytizing and selling flowers to support Moon’s ultra-lavish lifestyle. Parents of young Moonies complained that the Korean charlatan had brainwashed their children. Nonetheless, Moon managed to win the support of conservatives and was a favorite of Presidents Nixon, Reagan, and Bush 41 (GHWB) who personally received millions of dollars in speaking fees from Moon’s coffers. Million-dollar speaking fees are perfectly legal and are not to be confused with bribes or influence peddling.
Mr. Moon was born in a small village in what is now North Korea. His birthdate is given in both the Gregorian calendar (Feb 25) and the lunar calendar (Jan 6) which was in use at the time. The chart below is cast for sunrise with the Gregorian date, time unknown:
Moon conversed with Jesus (who spoke Korean) throughout his life. The first visit with Jesus occurred when Moon was but 3 years old. When Moon was 16 years old, Jesus revealed that he did not come to earth to save mankind (as many modern Christians erroneously believe) but rather to find an ideal wife, get married and procreate the perfect family. Unfortunately, Jesus’ romantic aspirations got interrupted by the Crucifixion, and now it was up to Moon to fulfill Christ’s amorous mission. In this sense Moon agreed with Sigmund Freud that at its root Christian altruism can be traced back to raw libido. Moon founded his church in Seoul in 1954 and helped to consummate Jesus’s frustrated conjugal desires in 2009 when he “married 45,000 people in simultaneous ceremonies worldwide.”
Moon’s vast wealth and political influence (e.g., a U.S. President in his pocket) allowed him to amass a multi-billion dollar business empire which included the Washington Times newspaper, the New Yorker Hotel in Manhattan, Bridgeport University in Connecticut, a ski resort, a professional soccer team, various businesses in South Korea, and a seafood distribution firm that supplies sushi to restaurants across the United States.
Moon’s chart is strikingly in tune with his character and life history. Born with the Sun conjunct Uranus in early Pisces, he developed a powerful messianic complex. The Sun/Uranus conjunction is Pisces is closely trine Pluto (immense wealth and power) in Cancer and Mars in its home sign Scorpio. This grand trine in water signs contributed to his avuncular charismatic presence.
The sleaze factor may be related to his Scorpio Mars square Neptune in Leo. I frequently find Mars/Neptune squares in charts of deceptive con artists and drug addicts who are expert at manipulating people to get what they want. Neptune conjoins Jupiter in Leo, contributing to his narcissism and messianic ambitions. Leo is the home of the Sun, giver of life and center of the solar system in which we exist. The Taurus Moon, which contributes to his calm demeanor, opposes Mars and squares the Jupiter/Neptune conjunction, forming a powerful T-square configuration, further enhancing his view of himself as the reincarnation of Jesus with a mission to fulfill the Lord’s conjugal desires (Mars in Scorpio). Venus in Aquarius completes the picture as she opposes the Jupiter/Neptune conjunction in Leo, squares Mars in Scorpio, and squares the Moon in Taurus. This grand cross with Venus in Aquarius opposite his messianic conjunction in Leo ties in symbolically with his notoriety for mass weddings.
The major transit occurring at the time of his death was transiting Neptune conjunct natal Uranus, which was exact on Aug 20, 2012. Neptune on Sept 2 when he died was at 1 Pisces 30 Rx and it turns stationary direct within half a degree of his natal Uranus on Nov 11, 2012.
