The euro came into existence at midnight on 1 January 1999 in Frankfurt, Germany in correspondence with the Maastricht Treaty. The euro zone includes France, Austria, Greece, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Belgium, Finland, Cyprus, Germany, Ireland, Malta, Italy, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia and Spain. This month the slow-moving dwarf planet Pluto crosses the natal Sun of the initiation of the euro’s use in Europe.
Pluto crossing the natal Sun marks a time of crisis and transformation. Such transits occur at times of major changes, and life is never the same afterward. Symbolically it is a time of death and rebirth, much like the process of metamorphosis in the insect world. Uranus, a planet of disruption, has been traveling in a stressful square aspect to transiting Pluto and the natal Sun of the euro, so this year has been (and will continue to be) a period of disruption for the currency.
On July 8, 2013, transiting Saturn makes a station in the euro’s second house, which suggests a drop in value of the currency and a new phase of the ongoing debt crisis. The Saturn station is square natal Neptune; this depressed value of the euro may be related to some type of scandal or behind-the-scenes dealings and machinations. Neptune is the planet of unreality and illusion, and the square of transiting Saturn to Neptune often indicates a harsh confrontation with reality.
On a positive note, Jupiter will be crossing the MC of the euro chart at the same time that Pluto is conjoining the natal Sun. Jupiter is a benefic planet in astrology with usually means expansion, protection and good fortune. The main risk of a Jupiter transit is over-expansion and over-optimism. This combination of transits, however, suggests that the radical transformation and disruptions affecting the euro this summer will ultimately work out for the best, though initially it may be accompanied by a period of stress and upheaval.
All-in-all, with the significant involvement of Pluto, Uranus and Saturn going on in relation to the euro’s initiation chart, July looks like a month of crisis for the European currency.
