Game Change: An Inside Look at Sarah Palin

The HBO film “Game Change” aired on Saturday 10 March 2012 and revealed a portrait of an ill-prepared Sarah Palin who became unhinged under the pressure of a national campaign.  What the movie made clear was that Ms. Palin lives in an alternate reality in which facts don’t matter and belief is supreme.  Can her disregard of historical reality in favor of personal opinion and religious fundamentalism be seen in her chart?

The best documented source gives Palin a birth time of 6 p.m. on 11 February 1964 in Sandpoint, ID.   This time, reported in her hometown newspaper, may be an approximation but it is the best we have at the moment.  Here is the chart:

Sarah Palin Birth Chart (time as reported in her hometown newspaper)

Palin has Virgo rising, which is consistent with her schoolmarm looks and manner of dress.  Uranus in Virgo in the 1st makes her a “maverick” like her running mate, John McCain.  Pluto in Virgo in the first could account for her bulldog or pitbull intensity.

The ASC, Uranus and Pluto are all disposed by Mercury in Aquarius in the 5th.  Mercury in Aquarius usually indicates unusual and strongly held opinions.  It can be a marker of a scientific mind but here Mercury is closely conjoined with the Moon, so her thinking and her emotions are intimately connected.  She thinks what she feels, and what she feels she thinks is right.  Mercury in the 5th suggests a strong interest in fun, recreation, creativity, drama, acting, beauty, and children.

ASC-ruler Mercury (speech, thinking, communication) in the 5th house (drama) is trine the MC.  She is a skilled communicator and a gifted actress.  Mercury is also sextile Venus in Aries in the 8th, giving her a feisty manner of speech (Aries) and a great deal of charm (Venus).

Venus happens to rule her Libra 3rd house of thinking and communication.  Venus sextile the MC suggests that her communications skills are a great asset in her career.  She knows how to connect with her base, and they receive her well (Venus).

Neptune in Scorpio in the 3rd suggests that illusion and belief play a strong role in her thought processes.  Unfortunately, Neptune is afflicted by squares to the Sun, Mars and Saturn, which form a stellium in Aquarius in the unfortunate 6th house.  Aquarius can be very self-willed, eccentric, and stubborn in its opinions.  Neptune deals with alternate realities and, when afflicted, suggests victim/martyr issues.  The Sun rules her 12th house of illusion, and Mars and Saturn rule the 9th of religion and higher mind by domicile and exaltation respectively.  The square from this stellium in Aquarius thus reveals how her belief system clouds her rational mind.

The Golden Dawn associates the middle decan of Scorpio (where Neptune resides in the 3rd house of mind in Palin’s chart) with the 6 of Cups.  In the 3rd house, it suggests that pleasure and memories from childhood are often on her mind.  Here is that card from the Jolanda tarot:

The Six of Cups from the Jolanda tarot: images that may reflect the mind and thought process of Sarah Palin

According to biddytarot.com:  “The Six of Cups is a card of childhood, nostalgia, naïve happiness, and generosity. You want to return to the happy memories of your past, whether as a child, teenager or adult. Oftentimes, though, these memories are indeed a thing of the past and reflect aspects of your life that have since vanished. You may feel that the only way to connect to this happiness is to escape into the past where you can reflect on your happy and beautiful memories, instead of dealing with current challenges.”

Another chart that demonstrates the Aquarian tendency to confuse what they personally want with what The World needs. Though I don’t know if the phrase “skilled communicator” does justice to the way Palin can toss a word salad.

Little did we think when we dreamed of an Age of Aquarius that someone like this would lead us into that New Age. See what happens when you use the kind of touchy feely see-the-best-in-everything New Age astrology that ignores the darker side of each sign?

  3. Jenny,

Thanks for the comment. Your insights are always welcome and enlightening. By “skilled communicator,” I meant that she really knows how to connect with her base. Since you probably don’t believe that dinosaurs are a ruse perpetrated by scientists to lead true believers astray, you probably would not respond to her communication style.

True enough. Plus I have this pesky problem some of us oldtimers have where I need people to complete their sentences for me to understand what they’re getting at. Not enough txting in my past!

BTW, if I didn’t remember to mention this before, thanks so much for posting these charts and offering the commentary. I learned so much about how to read charts back when you were posting on GEnie in the early 1990s, that it’s a pleasure to pick up from where that left off. (I learned a lot from your Solar Returns book, too and have been using that technique more than I used to.)
