Astrological timing of Events

Today I attended a workshop by Julene Packer on the astrological timing of events.  Her approach is to review the astrological aspects related to a specific question from the slowest to the fastest moving chart factos, beginning with the very slow transits of the outer planets.  In this way she narrows the time span in which a specific event can take place based on its astrological symbolism.

As a case example, she used the first release of George Lucas’s film Star Wars on May 25, 1977.  Apparently the film was ready in November of 1976 but Lucas was dissatisfied with the original cut and wanted changes made before the release.  In addition, he wanted his film to be released before a competing film Close Encounters of the Third Kind.  Following her method, Julene was able to show that a likely release date would be 25 may 1977.

Here is George Lucas’s natal chart, according to his birth certificate:

George Lucas natal chart from birth certificate

Lucas’ career matters and public image are indicated by his 10th house and its ruler(s) and occupants.  This Saturn (ruled of the Capricorn MC) and Moon in the 10th are the main indicators of his career.  Mars is exalted in Capricorn and also plays a role.  Saturn also rules the natal 9th house which has to do with publication.

Mars happens to rule his 12th house, which modern astrologers relate to the film industry.  Mars also rules the 7th house, which can signify his public, that is, the audience which watches his films.  Mercury and Venus occupy the 12th house and can represent the films that he makes.  The Sun is almuten of the cusp of the 12th house and may also play a role.

One technique that Julene did not consider was that of primary directions, so I decided to look at Lucas’ primary directions for the period surround 25 may 1977 when Star Wars made its debut.  Using the Janus astrology program, I generated a list of primary directions (both direct and converse) using the Naibod measure and Placidus semi-arc, both with and without latitude.  Here is the list beginning in November of 1976 when the first draft of the film became available.

George Lucas’ primary directions around the debut of Star Wars on 25 May 1977

Note that in May of 1977 the following aspects were in effect and reached perfection:

  • primary directed Moon (at 11 Cap 47 in the natal 9th of publication) trined natal Venus in the 12th
  • converse primary directed Saturn (ruler of the MC) conjoined natal Mars (ruler of the 12th) on May 7
  • converse primary directed dexter sextile of the ASC came to natal Mercury in the 12th on May 19 (this would have been exact on May 25 if he were born just a few seconds earlier).
  • primary directed Mars (ruler of the 12th) conjoined natal Saturn (ruler of the MC) on May 29

All in all the primary directions point to May of 1977 as a likely time for the publication of his film.  Nowadays May 25 is celebrated as “Star Wars Day” in Los Angeles.
