The Ideal Serial Killer: An Exercise in Electional Astrology

Recently I’ve been intrigued by the charts of serial killers, probably because such individuals are quite notorious and one has the impression that there should be much to learn about astrology from their charts.  Astrologer Bob Marks has published a series of articles about his research on serial killers at astrologyresearchjournal.org.  Marks went through AstroDataBank files and culled out the outstanding serial killers for a statistical analysis.  Though his sample size is not huge and his findings are preliminary, as an exercise we can use them to construct the hypothetical chart of an ideal serial killer.  Based on Marks’ compilations, the ideal serial murderer should have:

Ascendant in Virgo, Libra, or Sagittarius (so that they can come across as humble, charming, or charismatic to their victims).

Sun in Gemini, Sagittarius, or Capricorn and in the 9th or 5th house (or possibly houses 3, 8, or 10).  For some reason Gemini comes out on top, maybe because Gemini loves diversity and multiplicity and is always on the go, like the serial killer truckers who kill a series of victims along their truck routes and are hard to pin down.

Moon in Capricorn, Pisces, or Sagittarius and in the 3rd, 8th, 9th, or 12th house.  Moon in Capricorn can be cold and calculating.

Mercury in Scorpio, Sagittarius, or Gemini and in the 3rd, 8th, 9th, or 12th houses.   Mercury in Scorpio has death and domination on his mind.

Venus in Scorpio, Gemini, or Sagittarius and in the 6th house (or possibly houses 2, 11, 8, or 12).  Venus in Scorpio gets her jollies from death-related matters.

Mars in Aries, Sagittarius, Leo, Virgo, or Pisces and in the 12th house (or possibly the 7th or 8th houses).  Mars in the Fire signs is fairly self-centered and tends to ride roughshod over the rights and feelings of others.   Mars in Virgo or Pisces probably harbors a lot of resentment about his second-class role as a servant or victim.

Jupiter in Scorpio (or possibly Cancer or Libra) and in the 2nd, 7th, 10th, or 8th houses.  Jupiter in Scorpio expands the possibilities of death and dying.

Saturn (the Grim Reaper) in Leo, Cancer, or Capricorn and in the 1st, 12th, or 6th houses.  Saturn in Leo or Cancer is made quite nasty by being in its detriment.  In Capricorn, Saturn is quite powerful to do what it does best.

Uranus in the 11th, 10th, or 1st house.

Neptune in the 12th, 7th, or 2nd house.

Pluto in the 10th, 11th, 12th, or 8th house.

The Moon’s NN in Gemini, Virgo or Aries and in the 3rd, 9th, 5th, 2nd, or 6th houses.

The Equatorial ASC in Aries, Virgo, or Capricorn.

The Vertex in Libra (or possibly Cancer, Scorpio, or Aquarius).

Let’s use these statistics to “elect” a potiential birth date for a hypothetical serial killer in the decade of the late 70s, so he will be in his early to mid-30s at the time of this post and will be making the news over the next decade (if such a person exists).  Starting with the two traditional malefics, we would want Saturn in Leo (its detriment) and Mars in Aries where it is strongest.  We’ll put the malefics close to the angles of the chart to give them lots of power for evil.  Next we will put the Moon in Capricorn where it can be calculating and cold-blooded.  The Sun in Gemini seems to produce a lot of killers, so we’ll add a Gemini Sun for good measure.  Venus seems to like the 6th house of master/slave relationships in these charts, so we’ll put Venus there.  We’ll also put Pluto in the 12th, Uranus in the 1st, and Neptune in the 2nd because of the relationship among these three outer planets at that time in history.  As a final touch, we’ll arrange an Ascendant in Libra to give him a modicum of charm and good looks with which to ensnare his victims.

Our hypothetical serial killer chart can be narrowed down to June 3rd or 4th, 1977 around 4:30 pm in NYC.  Please bear in mind that this is simply an astrological exercise based on a statistical sample.  Of all the cities in the world, I arbitrarily chose NYC because I live close to it.  If you were actually born on June 3 or 4, 1977, in or near to NYC about 4:30 pm, it does not mean you are or will become a serial killer!  You are probably a fine person and an upstanding citizen.  What we are doing is purely hypothetical.  Here is a possible electional chart that meets many, but not all, of the criteria set out by Bob Marks’ compiled statistics:

Hypothetical Electional Chart for a Serial Killer

And for completeness, here is the Placidus Mundoscope based on diurnal arcs for our hypothetical serial killer:

I feel like I owe you an apology, one lunch with your stellium scorpio pal and you are on a murder and mayhem kick (astrology-wise). Very enjoyable!

  2. Jane,
See what you started. Actually Scorpio did not show up as much as might be expected in Bob Marks list. Only Mercury, Venus and Jupiter were in Scorpio. Your Venus is in Sagittarius, so I guess it will be safe for us to get together again.

  3. Jane Stern says:

Wasn’t Manson a scorp? Yes, I promise not to kill you if we meet again. My mothers chart matches the serial killer profile a bit too closely. I always thought she was odd.

  4. Yes, Manson has Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and the Sun all in Scorpio in the 7th house of partnerships. He unites with others around Scorpionic issues. His Mercury/Jupiter conjunction in Scorpio (expanded thinking about death) opposes his Uranus (eccentricity) at the end of Aries in the 12th house of sorrow, undoing, and confinement. This opposition is square to his Moon in Aquarius at the Midheaven, forming a difficult T-Square that affects his emotional life. It is not uncommon to see this formation in individuals who are hospitalized due to mental illness when the T-square gets activated by transits, progressions, or directions.

  5. Jane Stern says:

He has only four planets in Scorp? Poor little thing. Do I also have the Mercury/Jupiter thing in Scorpio? Is this why my shrink said I reminded him of Darth Vader?

    • Jane,
You have Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Moon, and Sun in Scorpio. You Venus is in Sagittarius in the 7th house, which is a very good placement for partnerships so you are unlikely to murder them (though you might want to at times with all that Scorpio influence).

Pretty insightful submit. Never thought that it was this simple after all. I had spent a beneficial deal of my time looking for someone to explain this topic clearly and you’re the only one that ever did that. Kudos to you! Keep it up

  9. Jesse says:

I don’t have a lot of the sign markers, but I have plenty of the house placements!

I’d love to hear your analysis.

Ascendant in Sagittarius (Conjunct Galactic Center)

Mercury and Venus Conjunct, in 10th (also conjunct MC and Mufrid)
Mars in Gemini and 6th (Opposing Great Attractor)
    Jupiter in Leo and 8th
Saturn in Capricorn and 1st (square MC)

    Pluto in Scorpio and 11th
North Node in Aquarius and 2nd
    Equatorial Ascendant in Capricorn
Vertex in Leo and 8th (conjunct Jupiter)

  10. Francine says:

Have a look at Israel Keyes chart, January 7, 1978 Richmond, Utah. A late afternoon birth will give him a Capricorn moon. Saturn in critical degree 29 Leo.

  11. joe mcb says:

I don’t agree with Mars in Virgo since it tends to carry a guilt complex & also Libra rising tends to be very conscientious.
I’m noticed that Hitler, Charles Manson & Ian Brady all have Uranus a few degrees behind their ASC in the 12th house of consciences… They were the first 3 killer types that popped into my mind & I noticed that similar aspect right away. I haven’t looked up any others.

  12. Shane says:

Sun in Gemini 9th house, libra ascendant (Scorpio equatorial ascendant) Jupiter in Scorpio, mercury in Gemini in 8th house, pluto in 12th /1st house, (pluto rising)

  13. Shane says:

And I have noticed quite a bit of. The libra risings in serial killer charts, but. I am pluto rising so really not typical of libra ascendant

  14. Kathy Kline says:

The Zodiac is Leo on the cusp. His name is Jorgensen. Tom Voight gives his name and solved cipher (the 340 name) But he didnt really, he backdated it so it looked like he did. But he was not the original solver. It is Erik@publicist.com
